Objective Doing a master’s on Design Innovation brings up a lot of questions about the nature of Design. Interviewing revered designers with years of practice-based knowledge, seemed like an inventive way to address some of these questions. The Vitra Design Museum Fellowship program created a forum to conduct these interviews in person. Traveling through the Unfamiliar was a chance to report back these learnings to Design colleagues in Tasmania
Process
Instead of using a keynote, the presentation investigated the process of setting creative restraints to stimulate creativity and interesting forms of Visual Communication. The challenge: Can one tell a story, without relying on our digital modern digital communication tools? The solution was a creative explosion. Handmade postcards on seats, and walls covered with posters. An old-fashioned projector to accompany the talk. Traveling through the Unfamiliar demonstrated how creative constraints can propel us toward a creative explosion.
